事实上，英文的时间说法远比你想像中来的复杂许多。不过别担心，这篇会教你道地的英文时间惯用语，让你下次跟外国人说话的时候，不会再搞错时间了！
12时制? 24时制?
一般常用的时制分为12时制和24时制。在24时制中，我们用0 – 23来表示每一个小时。然而在12时制中，我们会使用1 – 12的数字来表示每一个小时，然后为了区别上午及下午，我们在上午(午夜到中午)的时间后面加上am，下午(中午到午夜)的时间后面加上pm。
仅12以下的整点使用o’clock
只有在整点时才能用o’clock。例如，8点整可以说: eight o’clock，但是如果已经是8点01分了，就不能在用o’clock了。再者，只有12时制才能使用o’clock，绝对不可以说twenty o’clock！
至于整点时间，常用的有下列几种表示法：
The train arrived at three o'clock on the dot. (或 The train arrived on the dot of three o'clock.) (火车三点整准时抵达)
= The train arrived at three o'clock on the hour.
= The train arrived at three o'clock sharp.
= The train arrived at three o'clock exactly (或 at exactly three o'clock).
如何使用past / to?
在英语中我们常常会听到外国人用past / to 来形容时间，但是什么时候要用past? 什么时候要用to呢?
“逆读法”使用 past/to
我们以1到30分钟当第一个分界点，这里我们用past，例如，时间为8点20分时，我们说：twenty past eight.；
再来，31到59分钟则为第二个分界，这时候我们会用to，例如，时间为8点50分，因为剩下10分钟就要九点了，所以要说 ten to nine. 。
half表示半小時，quarter表示15分 / 45分
我们会用half来表示每一个小时的30分，所以例如时间为8点30分，就可以说：half past eight. 。而a quarter past / a quarter to 就表示每个小时的15分及45分，例如，8点15分是：a quarter past eight.；8点45分为 ：a quarter to nine.。学会用时间上quarter的讲法，可以让你的英文更加道地喔！
Use "past" to say times after the hour until half past, or 30 minutes past the hour.
Use "to" to say times before the hour from 31 minutes until the full hour.
To avoid using "past" and "to", say the time by hour and then minutes. Example: It's seven twenty-five.
而第二种“顺读法”，由左至右读，避免使用“past " 和 "To"如 10:25 读作 ten twenty-five、11:15 读作 eleven fifteen、2:30 读作 two thirty、4:45 读作 four forty-five。
用at表示具体时间，用in表示一段时间
我们会使用at来表示一个具体的时间点，例如：I’ll meet you at six pm.。
对于白天和夜晚的特殊时间，我们也会使用at来表示。例如：at midday(中午)、at midnight(午夜)、at dawn(清晨破晓时) 、at dusk(傍晚时)。
然而，如果我们谈论一天中的某ㄧ段时间，我们就要使用in来当介系词。例如：in the morning、in the afternoon、in the evening或是in the night。不过，这个规则有一个小例外，就是我们也会说：at night. 。
